This weekend was fun. I went hiking with some other ALTs. We climbed Mt. Mago-Sanbe and Mt. Ko-Sanbe. I continued studying for the Foreign Service Written Exam (FWSE) today. On my friend Steve's recommendation, I have started reading The Federalist Papers. They outline a rationale for radifing the U.S. Constitution.

  • Well, it is easy to change a noun into a verb by adding する to it, but nouns can be used a lot of ways in Japanese, just like in English. The examples you stated sound fine to me.

I minored in Japanese and did a year abroad in Japan, so I had a bit of knowledge before I was on JET. I recommend standard Japanese language courses, of course. Also if you can find a History of Japan class, I would recommend that. Phil. of Japan is also a good class, if it is available. Poli. Sci. and Soc. classes are also good. I took all those kinds of classes when I was studying.
