Journal for 2005-8-30 Tue..
Weather: Sunny   Plan: Akagi JHS

Today was good, but an annoying thing happened at lunchtime. Even though the 2nd term has started, we still need to bring our lunch. School lunch doesn't start up for another two weeks. Anyway, on the days I need to bring a lunch I always bring instant ramen because it is cheap and simple. So today, the vice principal says in front of everybody, "Wow...that sure has a lot of calories. But you are a big guy, Trevor, so it's OK." Man, that's rude! I heard some of the other teachers say that the vice principal is a "calorie otaku (freak)."

  • Is there a cultural difference, where the Japanese don't consider that to be inappropriate? Or is he just a rude bastard?
    • Japanese do tend to be more blunt when it comes to telling you how fat you are, but I think this was just dickheadism. I mean he didn't just say it once, he went around the room and told everybody how high calorie it was, sort of like a badge of honor that he was shocked it was so high.
  • Just tell him that it maybe high in calorie, but at least you know you won't get fat like some people do. So you NEVER have to worry about counting calories like he does all the time.
